So, the general belief is that when we pass from this life, our belongings, our “stuff”, doesn’t go with us. We leave it all behind and the memory of who we once were is carried on in our loved ones’ hearts. Generations later, we are someone’s mysterious ancestors, with little more than a name marked on stone with dates of birth to death inscribed.
When scanned by a smartphone, QR codes on headstones will display a custom-made website with information, photos, and videos of the deceased.
For those left behind, visiting the cemetery becomes a way to show respect, grieve, and to remember the good times. What if, years from now, our great-great-great-great-great-great-granddaughters and grandsons wanted to know their roots, their history, their ancestors?
Technological advances have made it possible.
QR codes are now being affixed to, of all things, tombstones. With a scan from their smartphone, people who visit the grave marker and scan the code will be taken to a website. The website can include an entire history, photos, and memories of the person who has passed from this world. Imagine, being able to get a glimpse of who your great-great-great-great-great-great-grandmother was. What kind of friends she had, photos taken throughout her life, memories left from numerous sources, and even videos. You could even hear her voice. The dynamic nature of this makes one live on longer throughout generations.
The QR code is laser engraved and filled with a black paste, which is then covered by a piece of glass on the tombstone, making it safe from the elements.
What a cool way to be remembered by your friends and families, and for many generations to come!
