We’ve all been there. You’re using your barcode equipment, it is working fine, and then BANG! It stops working. Whether it was dropped, run-over, or just stopped working, you are in the same boat. You have a non-functioning device and need to figure out how to get it working, fast. Many times this equipment can cost almost $2000, so you don’t want to just throw it away and buy a new one. The question is…what can you do?
There are companies certified by manufacturers to repair their products and they usually charge 1/4 to 1/2 the price of what the manufacturers charge.
If the device is no longer working because of an internal failure and it’s still under warranty, it is easy enough to call up the manufacturer, set-up a service ticket, send the device in and wait 2-3 weeks for the device to come back.
If you happened to buy an extended warranty or service contract that covers the device even if it was run over by a forklift, once again, you can work with the manufacturer or whomever your contract is with to get the device repaired. It is when you are not under warranty that causes the biggest problems.
If you aren’t under warranty and you send the device back, most of the time you will be charged a flat fee of $500.00+ from the manufacturer. Of course, this is not as bad as buying a new device, but getting the device repaired at a quarter of the original price is not an easy pill to swallow.
There is something that is easier to swallow! You can work with companies that are certified by the manufacturers to repair their products. Many of the manufacturers have programs to certify partners to work on their equipment. These repair companies are generally able to provide repair at a quarter to half
the price of what the manufacturers charge.
You also have minor and major repairs as an option. So instead of paying for excessive repair costs, you truly do just pay for the repairs you need. The companies also warranty their work, so if something was not done right the first time within the repair warranty period, they will fix the problem.
