Motorola MC75 Shows off Biometric Reader on CSI
The latest trend in biometric fingerprint and identification technology was recently featured on one of the most popular TV shows. Last week on
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, "A Family Affair", Greg Sanders used
Motorola's Mobile AFIS (Automated Fingerprint Identification System) on the MC75 mobile computer with biometric attachment to scan a homicide victim's fingerprint at the crime scene.
Since the victim had no identification on him, the Mobile AFIS allowed Sanders to immediately start searching for his identity without having to go back to the crime lab to process biometric data and then access personal or criminal history. Sanders could have also used the 2MP color camera on the MC75 to capture crime scene photos. This multifunctional device saved the city of Las Vegas man-hours and money-at least on the TV show. But this is a real solution that is being used for a number of different applications in law enforcement, healthcare, social services, and event security.
The Motorola MC70 or MC75
mobile computer with the biometric attachment module enables the capture of fingerprints (one to ten fingers). Having immediate access to critical data, even while in remote areas, enables personnel to take quick, appropriate action and to remain in the field to maintain a protective presence. The optional contact & contact-less smart card reading capabilities are ideal for national programs, such as TWIC (Transportation Works Identification Credential), FRAC (First Responders Authentication Card), PIV (Personal Identification Verification card), ACIS (Aviation Credential Interoperability Solution card) and CAC (Common Access Cards).
The wireless MC70/75 with biometric attachment provides a more efficient and reliable method of identity management across criminal justice and civil markets, but it is only part of the solution. You have to consider back-end infrastructure, secure methods of wireless connectivity, and the integration of mobile applications with existing business processes. Motorola's white paper,
Mobile Biometric Identification, discusses the end-to-end, standards-based approach that's required to deliver operational efficiencies, optimize resources and impact the bottom line.
